The Courthouse Cafe is owned and operated by me, Mary Newell. I am happy to introduce myself to you!  I grew up right here in Portales and in my 20's went to work for a larger local restaurant company.  I told my dad when I was about 14 that my dream was to own a restaurant some day, so he told me to go to work for the best. When I was hired at this local restaurant chain, where I started as a hostess, I was so excited! Over the next two years I worked my way up into management and then transferred locations, which was so exciting. I spent another 8 years working, learning and eventually moving into a corporate position.  

 When I was expecting my third son my husband and I moved back here to Portales to be closer to my parents and the rest of our family.  While growing our family I started baking out of my house for friends and family. In 2016 I opened a small bakery in conjunction with The Happy Place, which grew to the point where we needed more space. We then moved to our current location in 2018 where we decided to change the name to The Courthouse Cafe LLC. Along with my nephew, Chris who is my kitchen manager, we built our amazing menu.

 You will be happy to know that we cook our own meats!  This really sets us apart from the others and gives our sandwiches a unique flavor.

 The bakery is front and center in our cafe.  All of our amazing goodies are made fresh and from scratch on site. The recipes are old family favorites and some that have evolved over the years. We are so proud of our Real*Fresh*Food!

 The Courthouse Cafe, here in the heart of Portales, NM, is located on the town square across from the courthouse inside the old JC Penny building.  We have a comfortable cozy feel to our walk-up fast casual style dining.  Everyone is considered family here and I hope you feel that when you come in.
